The RGB colour mode is an industry standard for colour and is used to obtain a wide range of colours by varying the three colour channels Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B) and superimposing them on each other.

RGB is designed from the principle of colour luminescence, in layman's terms its colour mixing method is like having red, green and blue lights, when their light overlaps each other, the colours are mixed, while the brightness is equal to the sum of the brightness of the three, the more mixed the higher the brightness.

The superimposition of red, green and blue lights, with the brightest superimposed area of the three colours in the centre being white, characteristic of additive mixing: the more superimposed the brighter.

Each of the three colour channels - red, green and blue - is divided into 256 steps of brightness. At 0 the 'light' is weakest - it is switched off and at 255 the 'light' is brightest. When the three colours have the same grey value, they produce different shades of grey, i.e. the darkest black shade when all three shades are 0, and the brightest white shade when all three shades are 255.

RGB colours are called additive colours because you create white by adding R, G and B together (i.e. all light is reflected back to the eye). Additive colours are used in lighting, television and computer monitors. For example, monitors produce colour by emitting light from red, green and blue phosphors. Most of the visible spectrum can be represented as a mixture of red, green and blue (RGB) light in different proportions and intensities. Where these colours overlap, cyan, magenta and yellow are produced.

In the field of led the use of triple dot matrix full colour technology, i.e. a full colour pixel consisting of three RGB colour chips in one light emitting unit. As this technology continues to mature, led display technology will give people a richer and more realistic colour experience.
