Series connection is one of the basic ways to connect circuit components. Circuit components (such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, appliances, etc.) are connected one after the other in sequence. A circuit is called a series circuit when each appliance is connected in series. In a series circuit, the current through each appliance is equal.
There are three main characteristics of series circuits. One is that the current in all series connected components is the same current, I total = L1= L2= L3= ......= Ln. Second, the total voltage of the components in series is the sum of the terminal voltages of all components, U total = U1 + U2 + U3 + ...... + Un. Third, in the circuit shown, u is the total voltage, u1, u2, and u3 are the voltages of components 1, 2, and 3, respectively. u=u1+u2+u3.
Parallel connection is a connection between components, which is characterized by the connection of two similar or different types of components, devices, etc., at the same time, the end is also connected to a connection. It is usually used to refer to the connection of electronic components in a circuit, i.e. parallel circuit.
The difference between parallel and series connection
The most intuitive difference is the different characteristics exhibited by the batteries of these two connections. Four batteries connected in series have 6V, while in parallel they are still only 1.5V.
Parallel circuit: A circuit consisting of components connected in parallel, as shown above in Figure 3, is characterized by the fact that the current in the main circuit is divided into two parts at the branches and flows through each component in the two branches. For example, the connection of various electrical appliances in the home. In a parallel circuit, the switch on the main circuit is closed and the switch on each branch is closed so that the bulb will glow. In a series circuit, closing the switch causes both bulbs to glow at the same time, and disconnecting the switch causes both bulbs to go out, indicating that the switch in a series circuit controls all of the appliances.
