The IK rating is an internationally accepted numerical code for the level of impact protection of the equipment enclosure, usually IK and IP protection requirements are found together.
The IK code indicates the level of protection of the housing against external harmful mechanical impact. The marking indicates the level of protection of the enclosure against external mechanical impact applying the IK code as a combination of characteristic numbers (00 to 10). IK applies to the classification of protection against external mechanical impact of electrical equipment enclosures with a rated voltage of up to 72.5 kV and only to enclosures with special requirements for the classification of protection against external mechanical impact.
IK00 - No protection
IK01 - Withstands an impact force of 0.14J (equivalent to the impact of a 0.25KG object dropped from a height of 56mm on a surface)
IK02 - Withstands an impact force of 0.2J (equivalent to the impact of a 0.25KG object dropped from a height of 80mm on a surface)
IK03 - Withstands 0.35J impact force (equivalent to 0.2KG falling from a height of 140mm on a surface)
IK04 - Withstanding 0.5J impact (equivalent to 0.25KG falling from a height of 200mm on the surface)
IK05 - Withstands 0.7J impact (equivalent to 0.25KG falling on the surface from a height of 280mm)
IK06 - Withstanding 1J impact (equivalent to 0.25KG falling on the surface from a height of 400mm)
IK07 - Withstands 2J impact (equivalent to 0.5KG falling on the surface from a height of 400mm)
IK08 - Withstanding 5J impact (equivalent to 1.7KG impact from a 300mm drop)
IK09 - 10J impact force (equivalent to a 5kg object dropped from a height of 200mm)
IK10 - Withstands 20J impact (equivalent to a 5KG object dropped from a height of 400mm)
The IK protection class test is designed to prove that the product's housing will not cause damage to the interior of the product in the event of an impact. This standard specifies only those enclosures whose intended use in any other respect meets the requirements of the corresponding product standard and which, from the point of view of materials and workmanship, should ensure the indicated degree of protection under normal conditions of use, and the tests to be carried out to confirm that the enclosure meets the requirements of this standard.
